This a great scone recipe for an autumn tea…
Gather the following ingredients
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/3 cup shortening
1 tsp. maple flavoring
1 egg, lightly beaten
1/2 cup milk
Combine first four ingredients. Cut in shortening with a pastry cutter or your fingers until pea sized crumbs form.. Mix flavoring, egg and milk in small bowl and add to mixture until mixture is just moistened.
Pat out dough to 1″thick. Do not overwork dough. Use 2″ round cookie cutter to form scones.
Toss 1/2 cup chopped walnuts with maple syrup and spoon on top of scones.
Bake on a greased cookie sheet for about 25 minutes at 400 degrees.
